Seafood Pot Pie

Making dinner for My Man is fun!  Most importantly, it puts him in a good mood.  Work stress makes for some really grumpy men and we really don’t like ending the day on a sour note now, do we? 😛  So it really helps that he’s smiling when he’s off work and in better spirits 😛

I’m lucky that My Man likes being involved in the preparation process.  He cuts the veggies and meat or seafood and prepares the ingredients that I need.  He also helps to scoop the finished meal into serving bowls or plates. BONUS TIME: he helps with the dishes too!  I’m a lucky gal 😛

So I decided to make the sauce from scratch, which was a rather dumb thing to do because it took 1.5 hours.  Thankfully, there’re many dishes to feed him, so this labour of love can take its time making a reappearance 😛


I heated up butter in a deep pan and browned some chopped garlic and shallots.  To this, I then added sliced green capsicum, carrot and onion, and 1 potato, cut into chunks.  Chicken stock is added periodically till the veggies are very tender and break apart easily.  When the stew is almost done, add soy sauce, mixed herbs and pepper to taste.  Transfer this into a bowl and mash everything into the soup.  This forms your sauce.

Next, brown some garlic and fry bacon.  My Man loves, loves, LOVES bacon, so as long as he’s nice, I’ll add it to everything 😛  Bacon also adds fragrance to any dish.  So once the bacon is cooked, add shrimp and crab meat.  Finally, add the veggie stew back into the wok, season some more to taste and add enough sherry to make everyone really happy.

Lastly, crack a raw egg into the mixture, turn off the heat and stir vigorously so the yolk is broken and the egg is mixed through.

Transfer the mixture into an oven-safe dish or bowl and top with mashed potato.  I added a little beer in addition to butter, herbs, soy sauce and pepper to the mashed potato.  Top with shredded mozzarella.  Bung it into the oven and cook till the cheese melts.
